We established the Enviro-mental programme in the early 2000s as a commitment to keep the environment in mind as we grew and to continuously find ways to lessen any environmental harm.

Packaging

We recognise the environmental impact of single-use packaging and the importance of minimising its harm at the end of use. We’re working with suppliers to ensure our packaging is circular and sustainable. Most of our high-volume packaging (burger ZippyBox, chip cups, and side boxes) is made from aqueous-coated kraft board and is PFAS-free. Our takeaway bags are recyclable kraft paper, and our cutlery is made from wood and bamboo.

Taking away or delivered

Rubbish

Food contaminated packaging is not recyclable. Pop all BurgerFuel packaging in the rubbish with your drink bottle caps and till receipt.

RECYCLING

BurgerFuel takeaway bags, shake cup carriers, and all glass and plastic bottles, and cans should be put into your recycling.

COMPOST

You can dispose of food waste into your kerbside organics collection, or home compost (with your shake cup!).

In Store

Rubbish

Pop all leftovers, food packaging (excluding liner of sides box), bottle caps, till receipts & any rubbish that came with you into the rubbish bins provided.

RECYCLING

Your glass and plastic bottles, and cans should be recycled, pop these into the recycling bins provided.

Our Compost Initiative

Are you dining in at BurgerFuel Ponsonby or Takapuna? Your food waste and all food packaging is compostable! Dispose of these items in the compost bin provided.

Our shake cup is an aqueous lined (water-based coating) cold cup that is certified home compostable. This is our first step in creating a more sustainable line of food packaging for our menu items.

Composting your BurgerFuel Shake Cup

How to

  • 1.

    Order your thickshake, and enjoy :)

  • 2.

    Once finished, tear up your cup to speed up the composting process. The more you break it up, the easier it is for the microorganisms to chew it down (the lid and straw are not currently compostable and should go in the bin).

  • 3.

    Dispose of it in your home compost or worm farm. Over the next 4-8 weeks it will break down alongside your other food waste. A healthy compost needs a good balance of nitrogen, carbon, water and oxygen. Our shake cups are a form of carbon!

Consciously crafted and built with purpose

Wild Heart Burger

Wild Heart, created in collaboration with Citizen Collective, WITHWILD, and the Fiordland Wapiti Foundation, is a purpose-driven burger designed to address food waste in New Zealand.

Made with 100% locally sourced, rescued ingredients, it features a Wapiti venison patty, an introduced species which negatively impacts the Fiordland ecosystem, seasoned with Four Horseman black rub, truffle mascarpone, wonky Pukekohe carrots, mesclun salad, rescued Central Otago cherry sauce, and BurgerFuel Aioli.
