Radio BurgerFuel
Chow Down : 043 kamal.
Welcome to Episode 43 of our weekly guest mix - The Chow Down - curated by me, Scizzorhands. Each week, I'll bring you a different DJ as we travel all over the world, across loads of different genres.
I always enjoy listening to music brought to my ears from friends who know their stuff. This weeks guest is bringing it to me rough and raw straight outta South Africa!
It's a music style known as Gqom, it's distributed from peer to peer using WhatsApp and made in the sheds of South Africa's under-privileged townships. I would probably even go as far as to say that music is the escape for these individuals. Formulated in low budget computer programs and with little mixing and mastering, Gqom (click link for pronunciation) is a minimal music style that derives from the likes of House, hip-hop and afrobeat.
This weeks guest rocked in straight off the plane from South Africa into the Radio Burgerfuel studio to record his mix. A regular face at Radio Burgerfuel and a resident on BaseFM I've known him for a wee while and thought it was time to get him in
As a resident on KFM this young blood is definitely on the way to becoming a heavy foot in the industry...
