V8 SUPERCAR DEVELOPMENT SERIES

Hey fullas!

A few weeks back I raced over in Adelaide for round #1 of the V8 Supercar Development Series and boy was it a hot weekend. I’d been out of a car in a racing situation for a few months (Dec of last year) so she was always going to be a tough first up event, especially with the heat and a daunting street track.

With the two races we had we ended up with 4^th and 5^th place finishes to leave me tied for third equal overall for the round and third equal in the championship which was great. Our first race went well. Having qualified in 5^th, we made a pass a few laps into the race for 4^th before hustling for the rest of the race to chase down the 3^rd place car. The first race was scheduled quite late in the afternoon on the Friday so although it was still stonking hot at least the sting of the heat had passed. For race two on the Saturday we weren’t so lucky. Our race got underway right on lunchtime and with the ambient temp reaching a grouse 37 degs, she was going to be a tough slog. What made it worse in this race was the failure of my cool suit on the grid waiting for the race to start! Getting to start 4^th, due to finishing position of race 1, we made a great start to nab 3^rd and off we set for the race. Unfortunately five laps in my front anti roll bar broke which made the handling of the car pretty average. To add to the ill handling car was the fact I had no cool suit. The temps inside the car got close to 60 degrees so my personal performance certainly took a hit. In the end I slipped back from 3^rd to 5^th which was pretty disappointing.

Overall though, it was nice to be towards the pointy end of the field and stoked to get through the race weekend with no marks on the car (check out some youtube clips of the car crashes over the weekend – insane)

Our next V8 Supercar race is Perth in early May so a bit of a break between rounds. For me I’m going to use the break to keep up the training, get out on my dirt bike and try and make up some hours at work – love my accounting work!
