Citizen x BurgerFuel

From bread, into beer, into buns. Because every birthday should include burgers and beers, BurgerFuel have teamed up with our mates at Citizen Collective to bring you our very first craft beer collab.

Presenting LagerFuel, a crisp, golden, refreshing lager made from rescued surplus bread. Bread is one of New Zealand’s most wasted food products with over 29 million loaves going to waste in Aotearoa NZ every year domestically (stats care of Love Food Hate Waste), and that doesn’t count the amount of unsold bread from supermarkets and shops.

LagerFuel has been crafted to chip away at reducing food waste one cold one at a time, with every can saving one slice of bread from being turfed. We’re producing a limited-run batch and the brewing process produces a high-quality spent-grain flour, so the more beer we sell, the more spent-grain flour we can upcycle into our future BurgerFuel buns.

Citizen brews LagerFuel at Sawmill Brewery, Matakana (Mike the owner is a Citizen co-founder). Which means each can not only saves one slice of bread, but it’s brewed at NZ’s only B Corp brewery, meaning the highest sustainable standards are applied at every step of the brewing process.

And because we don’t sell booze in our stores, this tasty brewski can be purchased exclusively through Citizen.co.nz and delivered direct to your door (if you’re a Hawkes Bay local, head in-store to BurgerFuel Napier and give it a try). Plus, you can also get your hands on LagerFuel Light, a full-bodied, low alcohol lager.

Order online and stock up the fridge in time to enjoy a cold one with your next BurgerFuel takeaway. Sinking a can never felt so good. Cheers!
