Welcome to Episode 8 of our weekly guest mix the Chow Down curated by me, Scizzorhands. Each week I'll bring you a different DJ as we travel all over the world, across loads of different genres.

Breaks. What are they? Well, in the early 70's hip-hop pioneers such as Kool Herc gave birth to hip-hop through the knowledge of the break. A section of a recording where the drummer would be let loose for a short interval of time. In these short funky sections Herc realised people would dance harder than they would through-out the rest of the record. Herc soon realised that the parties would get wild when all he played was the break section of each record. 

The endless hunt for the "perfect party break" began and DJ's started hunting in record stores around the globe. A break can be found in any style of music from children's nursery rhymes to psychedelic rock. But like anything, there is always going to be the classics. One classic is known as the "Amen break".

A band from Washington DC became the unlikely godfathers of a genre that would later become drum and bass. Recorded in the 60's, this drum solo became a loop for many hip-hop songs including N.W.A.'s 'Straight Outta Compton' and became the go-to drum solo for UK rave music known as jungle which evolved to become drum and bass.

This week's guest is a up and coming producer and DJ whos life has become nothing but drum and bass. Honing his skills like a champion he's managed to impress the likes of Liquid Lowdown's Chiccoreli and many others. His name? ob:verse .
