Chow Down : 010 DJ Koncept
Welcome to Episode 10 of our weekly guest mix the Chow Down curated by me, Scizzorhands. Each week I'll bring you a different DJ as we travel all over the world, across loads of different genres.
A couple weeks ago I introduced to you a young drum and bass head by the name of ob:verse. If you track back to the introduction, I gave a good explaination about breaks and their importance to hip-hop and drum and bass.
Today's guest DJ Koncept is no stranger to either DnB or hip-hop and understands the importance of classic breaks when it comes to modern music. This weeks one is interesting for me because he's a close homie. The Bro is a turntablist with slight OCD for cleanliness when it comes to his scratching style. I know DnB heads are huge on cleanliness and technicality when it comes to their mixing prowess, so being a DnB head himself, I think today's guest takes that mentality across to his scratching and his hip-hop mixing.
A partner of the label ill Records, our guest is a music producer making his own way with under-ground gritty hip-hop partnering with Irish and New Zealand emcee's. He's also a skilled turntablist with UK championships under his belt.
I'm a fan of the love he has for underground music from hip-hop to drum and bass and the way he tends to fuse these genre's together. So straight outta Bangor, Northern Ireland via Belfast and Auckland, New Zealand. This is DJ Koncept's Guest mix.
