This month, we shout out to the team at Fair Food for their incredible work and commitment to ensure everyone has fair and equal access to good nutritious food through re-housing surplus food that would otherwise go to landfill.
Fair Food work with food businesses including growers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers to rescue food products that they are unable to sell or use. The team then sorts through approximately one tonne of surplus food per day to ensure it's still fit to eat for their communities. All the food is then packed for a next day pick-up by each of their community recipients.
Since launching in 2011, Auckland’s original good rescue charity, Fair Food have been working hard to reduce waste by helping out those in need. This year so far they've rescued 364,048 kgs of edible food, distributed over 1 million meals to the community, and saved 283,397kgs of toxic greenhouse gases from the atmosphere. Legends.
