Doug started working in a BurgerFuel store as a Shift Manager in 2012 after being in hospitality most of his working life. After thriving in the kitchen and running a successful team, Doug knew he loved the brand and was searching for more opportunity. He asked what was going at BurgerFuel HQ and shortly after he was offered the role as a Franchisee Trainer in the NZ Operations team. Without hesitation he joined HQ and has never looked back, having just celebrated his 8th year collectively at the Fuel. Doug now looks after 26 BurgerFuel Stores across the country and knows a thing or two about what makes a store successful in their local community.

How did you first get involved with BurgerFuel? I started working for BurgerFuel as a Shift Manager back in August 2012, after working in hospitality for several years. A friend of mine was the Manager at the time and got me an interview with the Franchisee and we hit it off.
What was the thing that attracted you the most to BurgerFuel? From my first interaction with the Franchisee in the interview, I could tell that this was the kind of company culture that I was wanting to work for. It was fun, fast, challenging and I saw that there was opportunity to grow and develop within the company. I had had some pretty terrible bosses in the past and saw myself fitting right on in with the team at BurgerFuel.
What do you tell your mates and family about BurgerFuel, what are the perks and best parts of being part of the store staff? Whilst in-store, the variation within my job and the initiatives they drove to keep the team cranking was great. We won competitions against other BurgerFuel stores which meant we got cool prizes and access to HQ events too! Now at HQ myself, looking after stores across the country means that I get to travel around and meet a lot of the staff. That, and the seemingly bottomless pit of burgers we get to eat our way through.
How did you get to work at BurgerFuel HQ? While I was a Store Manager, I had discussed with my Franchisee about any opportunities in BFHQ. He helped me get a spot with opening a store in Christchurch, which in turn showcased my skills to the right people and put me on the right path to become a Franchisee Trainer in the NZ Operations team.
What is one of the greatest opportunities BurgerFuel has given you? BurgerFuel sent me over to the USA store opening in Indianapolis, which was a great learning experience for me. Plus the Indy 500 was going on at the same time and we got the opportunity to experience the event as a group.
What motivates and makes you proud to rep BurgerFuel? I enjoy working for a Kiwi brand and being able to help out our Franchisees. I take a lot of pride in supporting small business owners and their families achieve success within their own community. With such a hands on approach, BurgerFuel Franchisees are constantly working in their stores and I enjoy working beside them on the front line helping them and their staff develop.
